Following our Antarctica season, MS Andrea will undertake a leisurely yet stimulating crossing of the southerly Atlantic Ocean to Europe, by way of a string of pearls stretching along the east coast of South America.
Day 1 : Arrive Buenos Aires, Argentina / Embark
Highlights of this cultural city include the Treatro Colon Opera House, Plaza de Mayo, Recoleta Cemetery and the Presidential Palace known as Casa Rosada. Embark in the afternoon for a 6:00 departure. Tonight MS Andrea makes her way north to the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo.
Day 2 : Montevideo, Uruguay
Days 3-5 : At Sea - Cruising the Brazilian Coast
Day 6 : Parati, Brazil
Languid days cruising the coast of Brazil are broken by a call at Parati, a 17th century town considered part of the national patrimony and favored as a weekend beach retreat by inhabitants of both Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. An important trading port for gold in colonial times, Parati has remained virtually unchanged in its 18th-century Portuguese architecture. The entire town has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Days 7-8 : Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Two full days and an overnight in glorious Rio allow plenty of time for exploring, including making the cable car ascent of iconic Sugarloaf Peak and taking the funicular to the summit of Corcovado Peak, crowned by the imposing statue of Christ the Redeemer, one of the 2007-designated New Seven Wonders of the World.
Days 9-10 : At Sea - Cruising the Brazilian Coast
Day 11 : Salvador, Brazil
In Salvador de Bahia, be sure to explore the historic Pelourinho District, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home of imposing colonial architecture. Explore the classic old town, with its magnificent 17th- and 18th-century baroque churches. A visit to the African-influenced Mercado gives you the opportunity to bargain for Brazilian arts and crafts.
Days 12-17 : At Sea
Long quiet days at sea on our Atlantic crossing allow us to savor the ship's amenities and special attention from the crew, along with interesting lectures and the observations of our onboard naturalist.
Day 18 : Praia, Cape Verde Islands
Having had the opportunity to discover both the Spanish and Portuguese legacy in western South America, we will now be able to visit and explore Praia, in the formerly-Portuguese Cape Verde Islands, off the coast of West Africa. Remotely situated 600 miles west of Senegal, this group of islands is one of the smallest nations in the world, with just 300,000 inhabitants. There is time to wander ashore, and perhaps sample some of the excellent seafood.
Days 19-20 : At Sea
Day 21 : Las Palmas, Grand Canary Islands
A full day is set aside for a tour of Gran Canaria Island, shopping or beachcombing.
Days 22-23 : At Sea
Day 24 : Cadiz, Spain / Disembark / Return Home
Disembark this morning in Cadiz, Spain, and transfer to the airport for flights home.

Ship Description: Andrea
This rugged vessel began her career in the 1960s as the Norwegian coastal cruiser Harald Jarl. Following a $20 million-plus conversion in 2003, she now offers a high degree of comfort and service on any expedition cruise in Antarctica, South and Central America and Europe.
Andrea carries a fleet of Zodiac landing craft, ready to take her passengers on a moment's notice for close-up explorations of Antarctica's otherwise inaccessible beaches, rocky outcroppings and shallow streams where wildlife thrives. Her conversion included construction of a large observation platform on the forward deck, and there is ample outside and sheltered teak deck areas for viewing the passing environs.
Passengers are welcome on the bridge, which is equipped with state-of-the-art navigation and communications equipment. The Andrea is classified as an ice strengthened cruise ship worldwide by Det Norshe Veritas, and meets all SOLAS and IMF safety at sea requirements. She is equipped with bilge-keel stabilizers. Ice masters, officers and crew are European, and a knowledgeable expedition team from both sides of the Atlantic coordinates Zodiac forays ashore, lectures and other activities that engage and enlighten guests during their Antarctica travel.
She features 57 mostly outside cabins, with lower beds, private bath facilities, individual climate control, satellite TV, telephone and safe. There are five single cabins. Distinctive 18th-century Gustavian-style furnishings and decor are seen in the cabins and public areas, creating an intimate, club-like atmosphere on your Antarctica cruise. The Shearwater Restaurant accommodates all passengers in one leisurely seating, offering fine continental cuisine prepared by Andrea's master chefs. The Kittiwake Lounge/Bar doubles as an on board lecture venue. The Cormorant Lounge offers forward-viewing observation windows, a small library and internet/e-mail access for guests. Andrea also has a fitness room for guests to utilize during their travels to Antarctica. An elevator is available for passenger use.
