Follow the Trade Winds on the route traversed by the early explorers who traced this path across the Atlantic Ocean throughout the centuries in the quest for discovery, leaving colonial villages and landmarks that exist to this day. On this expansive journey, set sail from Casablanca and travel down the West African coast. Embrace your inner explorer as you cross the Atlantic and visit the vibrant ports of the South American shoreline. En route, discover natural and cultural wonders that explorers have treasured for centuries, including the volcanic archipelago of the Cape Verde Islands; the Saharan dunes of Africa; the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Salvador and Olinda, Brazil; and the Falkland Islands, renowned for their mythical beauty and exotic wildlife. Our ship for this passage will be the all-suite Corinthian II, a luxurious private yacht with spacious lounges, a library, and broad decks for sunning and relaxing.

Day 1 : FLY FROM NEW YORK, NEW YORK

Day 2 : CASABLANCA, MOROCCO | EMBARK

Arrive in Casablanca and board Corinthian II.

Day 3 : AT SEA

Day 4 : LAAYOUNE, WESTERN SAHARA

From the port of El Marsa, drive inland across Saharan dunes to reach Laayoune, the main city in Morocco’s Western Sahara. Explore the Spanish-Saharan architecture of the Souk ez Saj, the city’s old district; the Museum of Traditional Arts; and the Artisans Center’s craft workshops. After visiting a nearby oasis, where you will enjoy an elaborate Saharan tea show, end the day with a drive in the dunes.

Day 5 : DAKHLA

Capital of the old Spanish colony Rio de Oro, Dakhla is now mostly populated by Moroccans and tribesmen who previously lived in the desert. Whitewashed houses and low-rise buildings characterize this town.

Day 6 : AT SEA

Days 7-8 : AT SEA | SAO VICENTE, CAPE VERDE ISLANDS

Call at Sao Vicente. Spend the day enjoying the island’s striking mountain scenery and relaxing on its beautiful beaches.

Days 9-12 : AT SEA

Day 13 : RECIFE | OLINDA | RECIFE, BRAZIL

Tour Recife, including the Convent of St. Francis, with beautiful Portuguese tiles; the adjoining Golden Chapel; and the State Museum. Continue to historic Olinda, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 14 : AT SEA

Day 15 : SALVADOR

Stroll through Salvador’s maze of streets and elegant squares, lined with pastel mansions, imposing churches, artists’ workshops and handicraft and antique shops.

Days 16-17 : AT SEA

Days 18-19 : RIO DE JANEIRO

Beautifully situated between lush mountains and the sea, Rio is one of the world’s most impressive cities. Explore Sugarloaf Mountain, Corcovado and Tijuca Forest.

Day 20 : SANTOS | SAO PAULO | ITATINGA

From Santos, travel to dynamic Sao Paulo. Discover the city’s historic buildings, contemporary architecture and its Museu de Arte. Enjoy free time on the famous Avenida Paulista, perhaps exploring its elegant cafes and boutiques. Alternatively, spend the day in Santos, Brazil’s most important port and the center of the country’s coffee exports. Among its sights are 17th-century churches, the coffee exchange, and the Orchid Garden. In the nearby village of Itatinga, see one of Brazil’s remaining coastal forests, which is home to a rich biodiversity. Also enjoy a swim in one of Santos’ inviting beaches.

Day 21 : PARANAGUA | CURITIBA | PARANAGUA

From Paranagua, take the train to the inland town of Curitiba, via Brazil’s most spectacular rail journey, glimpsing high peaks, deep gorges and waterfalls en route. Curitiba is one of Brazil’s loveliest towns, with shaded squares and distinctive artchitecture.

Day 22 : ITAJAI | BLUMENAU | ITAJAI

From Itajai, the most important port in the province of Santa Catarina, visit Blumenau, a prosperous city and a center of high-tech and electronics industries. The city’s founding by Germans in the 1850s is evident in the architecture of its old town.

Days 23-24 : AT SEA

Day 25 : MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY

Call at Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital, founded in 1726. A city tour concentrates on the historic old port town.

Day 26 : MAR DEL PLATA, ARGENTINA

One of Argentina’s oldest and most famous resorts, Mar del Plata is now a thriving city. From Rambla, a promenade facing Playa Bristol, explore the city, including the Cathedral; the Villa Ortiz Basualdo, housing the Municipal Museum of Art; the Victoria Ocampo Cultural Center, an early 1900s house in lovely gardens; and the Sea Museum.

Days 27-28 : AT SEA

Days 29-30 : WESTPOINT ISLAND | SAUNDERS ISLAND | STANLEY, FALKLAND ISLANDS

Spend two days exploring the wildlife-rich Falkland Islands, including Westpoint Island, where we’ll walk across the moors to a rookery of black-browed albatross and rockhopper penguins. On Saunders Island, explore the dramatic beaches, teeming with Gentoo and Magellanic penguins, as well as cormorant and black-browed albatross colonies. Continue to Stanley, the quaint capital.

Day 31 : AT SEA

Day 32 : USHUAIA, ARGENTINA | DISEMBARK

Arrive in Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost town, situated on the Beagle Channel, with the mountains of Tierra del Fuego as a backdrop. Disembark and transfer to the airport for the flight home

Day 33 : ARRIVE IN MIAMI, FLORIDA

The distinguished 114-guest Corinthian II offers a classic yacht-like atmosphere and fine accommodations. Corinthian II is ice-strengthened for voyages into Antarctic waters, and is equipped with a fleet of Zodiac inflatable craft for forays ashore. Originally built in 1992 and refurbished in 2005, Corinthian II accommodates all guests in 57 outside suites, each affording sea views and elegantly appointed with a sitting area, TV, mini-refrigerator, safe, and other amenities as well as a marble bathroom. Several suites include private balconies accessed via sliding glass doors. Spacious and finely decorated public areas include a library stocked with books related to the itinerary and other volumes, and four computer terminals for e-mail access; an elegant lounge; and The Club, a space for convivial relaxation, with picture windows for panoramic views. The restaurant, serving fine cuisine prepared by European chefs, accommodates all guests at a single unassigned seating. The ship also includes a gym, beauty salon, a sun deck with Jacuzzi, and an outdoor café and bar, where meals may be served al fresco. Corinthian II is served by 70 experienced European officers and crew. There is also an elevator offering access to all decks.

All accommodations aboard Corinthian II are suites. They face outside, affording sea views, and several have balconies with sliding doors. All suites include a bedroom with twin or queen-size beds, sitting area, ample closet space, mini-refrigerator, TV, marble-appointed bathroom with shower, and other amenities.
