SOUTH AFRICA IS A MAGNIFICENT COUNTRY of spectacular coastlines, national parks teeming with wildlife, world-class vineyards, and more than 500 splendid golf courses — a statistic that always comes as a surprise to golfers. Our voyage combines the natural wonders and cultural attractions of South Africa along with rounds of golf at some of the country’s finest courses. The voyage begins in South Africa’s oldest city, Cape Town, for an excursion through the Cape Winelands, including the renowned Stellenbosch vineyards. South Africa’s wildlife preserves are among the most impressive in the world: the Kariega Game Reserve is home to lions, hippos, giraffes, rhinos, and three varieties of eagles; cheetahs and leopards are protected in the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi National Park; and you’ll discover the last herd of Cape elephants at the Addo Elephant National Park. Durban is a fascinating city with a dynamic cultural life that has been strongly influenced by the native Zulu people and immigrants from India. For golfers, we have arranged for you to play at any or all of six dramatic courses, including Jack Nicklaus’s Pearl Valley Golf Course, set amid majestic mountain scenery; the challenging Humewood Golf Club, which opened in 1931; and the world-renowned East London Golf Club—overlooking the Indian Ocean, this breathtaking course has played host to the South African Open Championship seven times.

Day 1 : Cape Town, South Africa

Arrive in Cape Town in the evening and transfer to the distinguished Arabella Sheraton Grand Hotel.

Day 2 : Cape Town / Stellenbosch / Cape Town

Tour Cape Town, including the upper City Centre and the South African Museum, before heading to the celebrated wine lands, nestled in three bucolic valleys. The rambling vineyards and whitewashed Cape Dutch farmhouses found here make this one of the country’s prettiest regions. Most famous among the wine towns is Stellenbosch, with its historic buildings and oak-lined streets. In the evening, enjoy a welcome cocktail reception and dinner at the hotel.

Day 3 : Cape Town / Cape Peninsula National Park / Embark

GOLF: Play the challenging Jack Nicklausdesigned Pearl Valley Golf Course at the base of the Drakenstein Mountains.
TOUR: Discover the celebrated wine town of Stellenbosch and enjoy a wine tasting at a vineyard. In the afternoon, board Corinthian II and sail.

Day 4 : At Sea

Day 5 : East London

Explore East London’s shoreline, with its meandering beaches and waterfalls tumbling into the sea.
GOLF: Play East London Golf Club, site of seven South African Opens. With views of the Indian Ocean, it is known for its dramatic elevations and strategically placed bunkers.
TOUR: Visit the East London Museum, with its outstanding South Nguni beadwork collection.

Day 6 : At Sea

Evening arrival in cosmopolitan Durban. Its busy streets offer an authentic African experience.

Day 7 : Durban

GOLF: Play the championship Beachwood Golf Course. This tree-lined course has four water features, making it a good challenge to the handicap.
TOUR: Discover Durban’s Golden Mile, Indian Market, and museums. Also visit a township.

Day 8 : Richards Bay / Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park / Richards Bay

TOUR: Explore Hluhluwe-Umfolozi National Park, South Africa’s oldest national park and home to rhino, lion, cheetah, giraffe, and hippo.

Day 9 : At Sea

With its heterogeneous mix of Zulus, Indians, and whites, many look to Durban to lead the new South Africa into the future. But more than a cosmopolitan city with a sophisticated and polyglot populace, Durban’s busy streets, with their heady combination of colonial and native flavors, offer visitors an authentic African experience they will not find anywhere else in South Africa. Tour Durban’s major sites in the morning, and then spend the afternoon at sea.

Day 10 : Port Elizabeth

Port Elizabeth, founded in 1820 by the British, became a prosperous port and trading center.
GOLF: Head to St. Francis Links Golf Course, a Jack Nicklaus signature course, whose terrain’s shape creates a wide range of demanding shots.
TOUR: Non-golfers drive to the private Kariega Game Reserve, set above the stunning Kariega River Valley. See wildlife such as elephant, leopard, zebra, and a myriad of bird species.

Day 11 : Port Elizabeth

GOLF: Play Humewood Golf Club, a true links course. A challenging layout and exquisite setting allow for a unique experience.
TOUR: Drive to Addo Elephant National Park, established in 1931 to protect the last surviving Cape elephants and now also home to animals including eland, kudu, and Cape buffalo.

Day 12 : Mossel Bay

The Garden Route is arguably South Africa’s most spectacular area, comprised of forested mountains, golden beaches, and rugged cliffs.
GOLF: Golfers head to Oubaai Golf Resort, South Africa’s first and only Ernie Els signature course, great for golfers of all levels.
TOUR: Non-golfers take an excursion to the western part of the Garden Route.
