IN THE EARLY SUMMER, WHEN THE MEDITERRANEAN IS AT THE HEIGHT OF ITS BEAUTY, we will sail to some of the most fascinating ancient sites and spectacular scenery in Europe and North Africa. And situated amid all this splendor are some of the finest golf courses in the Mediterranean. Almost every day you have the option of visiting historic sites, or playing at golf clubs, several of which have international reputations, while others will be new to you. Visit the magnificent remains of ancient Carthage in Tunisia, or play at the Carthage Golf Club located very close to the ruins. Wander through the beautiful medieval town of Bonifacio on the island of Corsica, and discover the Sperone Golf Club, a Robert Trent Jones, Sr. creation set high above the sea. Visit the work of modern masters at the museums of Nice and St.-Paul-de-Vence and play at one of the finest courses on the French Riviera, the Saint-Donat Golf Country Club.
Day 1 : CIVITAVECCHIA, Italy | EMBARK
Arrive in Rome and transfer to Civitavecchia, the city’s deepwater port, to board Corinthian II.
Day 2 : LIVORNO, Tuscany
Arrive in Livorno, Tuscany’s main port city.
GOLF: Golfers play the opening round at Cosmopolitan Golf & Country Club, considered one of Italy’s best courses. The undulating course follows the natural terrain and consists of bunkers, dunes, and lakes.
TOUR: Choice of two full-day excursions: Florence, birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, or the leaning tower and medieval buildings of Pisa, and the old Tuscan town of Lucca.
Day 3 : NICE, Cote d’azur, France
GOLF: Golfers head to the Golf Country Club at Saint-Donat, a Robert Trent Jones, Jr., creation set in exquisite country near the old and historic Provencal town of Grasse.
TOUR: Experience the French Riviera today. Explore Nice and its celebrated Matisse Museum, and the acclaimed modern art collection at the Maeght Foundation in St.-Paul-de-Vence.
Day 4 : BONIFACIO, Corsica
Be on deck this morning as Corinthian II navigates the fjord-like waterway that leads to Bonifacio, Corsica’s most picturesque town.
GOLF: Play the Sperone Golf Club, one of the Mediterranean’s finest and most breathtaking courses, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr.
TOUR: Tour Bonifacio, built on high limestone cliffs overlooking the strait separating Corsica from Sardinia. Stroll through the medieval streets lined with Gothic architecture.
Day 5 : CAGLIARI, Sardinia, Italy
Sardinia’s capital and the island’s main port and largest city, Cagliari was founded by the Phoenicians in the 9th century b.c.
GOLF: Golfers play the Is Molas Golf Club, which straddles the sea and pine woods in the resort area of Santa Margherita.
TOUR: Non-golfers tour the ancient Phoenician-Roman site of Nora and enjoy time at leisure exploring Cagliari.
Day 6 : TUNIS, Tunisia
Tunisia is rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the Mediterranean’s best golf destinations. Arrive in Tunis, the cosmopolitan capital.
GOLF: Play Carthage Golf Course, Tunisia’s oldest course. Located near legendary Carthage, it is set amidst cypress, pine, palm, and olive trees. Skill and accuracy are required to achieve par.
TOUR: Visit Carthage, the Phoenicians’ major settlement in the Western Mediterranean, and the famed Bardo Museum, known for its mosaics. Also enjoy free time to explore Tunis’s colorful souks.
Day 7 : TRAPANI, Sicily, Italy
TOUR: From the old port town of Trapani, take an excursion to Erice, a walled city built on top of an isolated hill commanding spectacular views of the sea, the nearby Egadi Islands, and the countryside below. Stone-paved narrow streets are lined with stately 14th- to 17th-century houses and no fewer than 60 churches.
