Sail through eight countries united by the Baltic Sea, encountering fascinating cultures and long-neglected histories. Discover fairytale castles and the “city of ruins and roses,” before delving into the European capitals of Copenhagen, Stockholm and St. Petersburg, where we spend three nights at the superb Grand Hotel Europe. Each of the capitals has an Old Town, and the buildings have been beautifully restored; especially moving are those of Tallinn and Riga, flourishing in the 21st century. The great cities and Hansa towns of Lubeck and Gdansk are balanced with peaceful island stops for nature walks, where the vitality of summer enhances your experience.
Day 1 : Arrive Copenhagen/Embark Ship
Arrive in Copenhagen, Denmark's capital with a royal touch, and proceed to National Geographic Endeavour. After lunch onboard, join a guided overview of the city, visiting Christianborg Castle, home to the Danish Parliament, the Amalienborg Palace, residence of the Queen of Denmark, and of course, the statue of The Little Mermaid. (L,D)
Day 2 : Lübeck, Germany
Today we dock near Lübeck's Old Town, a World Heritage Site. A boat ride along the canals gives us an overview of the city and we explore its Hanseatic architecture on a guided walk. (B,L,D)
Day 3 : Christiansř & Bornholm Islands, Denmark
Land by Zodiac at tiny Christiansř for a morning of reflection and photography in this artists' village that now occupies the site of an 18th-century castle. Visit picturesque Bornholm and see the ruins of Hammershus, Denmark’s largest ruin castle built in 1260.
Day 4 : Gdánsk, Poland
Dock at the historic shipyards of Gdánsk. Meet with former president of Poland, Lech Walesa, who started Poland's Solidarity movement. Visit the moving monument to Solidarity and stroll through the Old Town to the 15th-century Artus Court.
Day 5 : At Sea
Time at sea to hear talks about the Baltic’s intriguing history and exciting future — in 2004 Poland and the Baltic Republics joined the EU. (B,L,D)
Day 6 : Riga, Latvia
Explore Riga, a city dominated by its jumble of eclectic architecture from many periods. Riga's historic city center is a World Heritage Site, recognized as having the finest collection of art nouveau buildings in Europe.(B,L,D)
Day 7 : Visby, Gotland, Sweden
Discover the walled city of Visby, favored by the Vikings. The streets evoke the Middle Ages and earn the city its nickname "the city of ruins and roses." Visit the Fornsal Museum, with its superb Viking exhibits, and the botanical gardens.(B,L,D)
Day 8 : Stockholm
After a dramatic entrance to Stockholm Harbor by Zodiac, a walk in Gamla Stan, the Old Town, takes us to the Royal Palace and the famed Vasa Museum with its restored 17th-century warship. (B,L,D)
Day 9 : Swedish Archipelago
Today we wind our way through the enchanting islands of the archipelago. At Bullerö Nature Reserve an afternoon of swimming, hiking and kayaking works up our appetites for a feast of local salmon. And in true Swedish tradition, a sauna and a dip in the cool Baltic Sea round out the day. (B,L,D)
Day 10 : At Sea/Helsinki, Finland
A morning at sea is punctuated with a talk on Russia from the Czars to the Soviets. After lunch, we make a scenic approach to Helsinki, tying up right in town. The Russian influence on Finnish architecture is immediately evident on our walking tour. We’re docked all evening, so explore on your own. (B,L,D)
Day 11 : Tallinn, Estonia
Our walking tour includes the scenic Old Town (a World Heritage site) and Town Hall Square. Then enjoy free time in this Hanseatic city. Back on board, you won’t want to miss the talk on Peter the Great and St. Petersburg, our final stop. (B,L,D)
Days 12-14 : St. Petersburg, Russia/Disembark Ship
Be on deck for the ship's thrilling approach to St. Petersburg. Dock in sight of the grand Hermitage Museum and check in to the five-star Grand Hotel Europe. These three days are spent exploring St. Petersburg's treasures: The Hermitage, the grandiose Peter & Paul Fortress, St. Isaac's Cathedral, Peter the Great's Summer Palace at Petrodvorets and the opulent Catherine's Palace at Pushkin. (B,L,D)

Ship Description: National Geographic Endeavour
Don’t let her accommodating public and private spaces, the posh quiet and rich collection of books in her Library, or the lavish observation space on her decks fool you — the National Geographic Endeavour is an expedition ship, designed for discovery and active exploration, not just passive passing-by. The Endeavour heads out equipped with a fleet of Zodiacs, enabling us to make landfall in all the remote and riveting locations that beckon — and to make a somewhat dashing "entrance" in a host of coastal towns and cities! We offer kayaking opportunities wherever possible and frequent walks or hikes. We can set a pace for more demanding walkers and simultaneously provide a rewarding experience for strollers, too. There’s no age limit to our adventurous opportunities — anyone who feels fit and is interested is welcome to participate. And because navigation is an underlying theme, our "Open Bridge" policy will provide you with one of the more gratifying memories of the many you’ll make. It is simply magical to stand on the bridge during your Antarctica travels, watching your highly skilled Captain guide his crack crew up to a bird wall of astonishing proportions for a no-binoculars-necessary view, or navigate a narrow and charming river The spontaneity and flexibility that characterizes our expedition style means there is literally something new to experience and enjoy daily on our Antarctica cruises.
