The wind blows through the rigging, the ship covers knot after knot. Aided by the trade winds, it sails off towards the horizon. Where to? On board the Sea Cloud you know where you're heading, but when the Santa Maria left the Canary Islands, neither the crew nor the captain, Christopher Columbus, knew where they were going. His journey over the sea was an important chapter in history, and it is his course that the Sea Cloud will be following. The scent of adventure still hangs in the air and much of the work on board has hardly changed in the intervening 500 years: sails are still patched the deck is still scrubbed, hawsers are lashed and masts are climbed. There are still new worlds to discover. They reveal themselves to those who let themselves be enchanted by the boundless sea.
Day 1 : Las Palmas, Gran Canaria (Canary Islands)
Arrive in Las Palmas on Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. Embark your ship in the afternoon. We depart at 18:00.
Days 2-16 : At Sea
The November grey softens the blue on blue of the sky and water. Souls weary from everyday worries find peace and sailing enthusiasts have a treat in store for them: the Sea Cloud will be at sea for many days. Its legendary planks are the boards that mean the world to sailors. Those who don\'t want to listen to the silence can hear interesting lectures or visit the bridge. The captain and officers are looking forward to your visit.
Day 17 : Bridgetown, Barbados / Disembark / Fly Home
Arrive in Bridgetown in the Caribbean island of Barbados. Disembark after breakfast, and transfer to the airport for flights home or extend your stay in the magical Caribbean.
NOTE: Shore excursions are not included but can be arranged separately.
Prices are based on a 3% cash discount.
Ship Description: Sea Cloud
The Sea Cloud is a glorious and gracious sailing yacht, a four-masted bark, custom built in 1931 by the business magnate E.F. Hutton for his wife the heiress, Marjorie Merriweather Post.
Her sleek, snow-white hull elegantly curves from stem to stern and her masts stretch high into the sky. The ship’s decks offer the grandeur of rich mahogany, teak and gleaming brass and the magnificent golden eagle figurehead seems poised to fly across the waters.
The opulence continues in the public areas and original cabins with antique furnishings, elegant fireplaces and bathrooms of Carrara marble with golden fixtures. The newer cabins also offer a high degree of comfort and luxury with rosewood and brass décor, marble baths and large windows. Personal service and fine amenities are the hallmarks of a Sea Cloud cruise and guests are pampered with deluxe linens and bathrobes, complimentary fruit in their cabins and complimentary fine wines served with lunch and dinner.
A nostalgic romanticism permeates the Sea Cloud evoking the glories of the Golden Age of Travel. Music from the ships own Steinway upright piano wafts from the elegant dining room where you enjoy fine international cuisine. Other shipboard facilities include a well-stocked boutique, a cozy library and the delightful bar on the Lido Deck where you can relax or sunbathe in comfortable deck chairs.
